Sustainable animal agriculture significantly contributes to local economy, livelihood, job opportunity, public health safety as well as food and nutritional security. Many forums across the world have emphasized the need of sustainable animal agriculture, especially in developing countries. One of such international forums is the Sustainable Animal Agriculture for the Developing Countries (SAADC). The first conference of SAADC was held in Kunming, China in 2007 followed by Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2009, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand in 2011, Lanzhou, China in 2013, Pattaya, Thailand in 2015 and Malang, Indonesia in 2017. To continue this effort, the 7th international conference has been scheduled for November 2019 in Nepal. Nepal Veterinary Association in collaboration with other national and international agencies is going to organize the 7th SAADC (SAADC 2019). The location for the conference is the beautiful city of Pokhara in Nepal, where reflection of the Mount Machhapuchchhre falls in Lake Phewa, and is located 200 km west of capital city Kathmandu. Nepal is an agrarian society where crops, livestock and fisheries constitute the backbone of national economy with a significant contribution in the livelihood of millions of farmer-families, entrepreneurs and agro-industries.
The theme of this conference is “Eco-friendly animal production for profitable smallholder farming”. This theme highlights that the technological changes should ensure the attainment and continued satisfaction of human needs for present and future generations safeguarding the health of animal, human and environment with a primary focus in the smallholder farming. The major objective of this conference is to provide a platform for scientists, farmers and other stakeholders involved in the field of animal agriculture and allied disciplines to share their experiences and discuss on the challenges of eco-friendly animal production system and identify mitigating measures.
With growing interests of people in organic and niche products, SAADC 2019 aligns in promoting sustainable animal agriculture in developing countries and beyond. SAADC 2019 will provide a platform for the exchange of information and new technologies related to sustainable animal agriculture among national and international scientists, academicians, students, entrepreneurs and farmers. The organizing committee wishes to extend its invitation to all who are interested in this novel subject to attend the conference. We are excited to welcome you all in the paradise city of Pokhara, Nepal in November 2019.
